Chaikal Nuryakin, Ph.D.

Chaikal obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Masters in economics science (MSE) from the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (FEB UI) in 2002 and 2006. He then continued his studies at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo, Japan and obtained his Masters of Arts (MA) degree in 2011 and PhD in Economics in 2015. His research interests are experimental and behavioral economics, banking and finance, monetary economics, econometrics and modelling.

He started to work at FEB UI in 2003 until 2008 as a researcher under the Laboratory of Economics, Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Indonesia (LABIE-FEUI). Since 2006, Chaikal also became a lecturer under the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia. Upon the completion of his PhD, alongside teaching at FEB UI, in 2014 Chaikal joined LPEM FEB UI as a full-time researcher. In addition to these roles, in 2016 to 2018, Chaikal also served as Program Deputy of the Masters in Economic Planning and Public Policy (MPKP FEB UI).

In 2018, he was appointed as the Director of the Undergraduate Economics Program at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia and also as Head of Digital Economy and Behavioral Economics Research Division of LPEM FEB UI. Following these posts, Chaikal was appointed as Director of LPEM FEB UI in 2023.

Chaikal has published academic articles in several journals such as Japanese Economic Review and Economics and Human Biology, among other reputable peer reviewed journals. In addition to this, he wrote a book chapter within a book on Trade and Poverty Reduction in the Asia Pacific Region with Milda Irhamni.
