The above data is the average working hours spent by Jabodetabek and Surabaya in 2022. It turns out that the practice of social norms in Indonesia that women are the primary caregiver of the family is still frequently found, including in the care of children and the elderly. There is a fact that married women allocate three times more time than men to unpaid nursing jobs (Prospera dkk., 2023).
The implementation of flexible labour policies still needs to be discussed again, in order to balance the needs of employers and workers, especially those who have responsibility for caring for children and the elderly.
In addition, an important campaign for child care (TPA) and long-term care for the elderly needs to be launched to change the norms relating to the primary responsibility of household care, and increase demand for TPA services and senior care.
What do you think? Do you agree or do you have any other advice?
