Thursday January 18th, 2024

Jakarta, January 16, 2024 – LPEM FEB UI, in collaboration with OECD and BNPB, has organized the second edition of the Asia Regional Experts Meeting on Development, Disasters, and Climate Challenges (Am-DC) under the theme ‘Sustainable Resilience Through Disaster and Climate Risk Financing in Indonesia.’ The seminar took place on January 16, 2024, at the Master of Management Auditorium, Prof. Wahjudi Prakarsa Building 3rd Floor, UI Salemba. The event brought together experts from research institutions, policymakers, international organizations, universities, as well as representatives from the public and private sectors in Indonesia.

Building upon the success of the first meeting in April 2023, Am-DC serves as a crucial platform for in-depth discussions on policy priorities, new analytical approaches, and data challenges related to disaster mitigation. This year’s focus is on building sustainable resilience through disaster and climate risk financing in Indonesia.

This multidisciplinary meeting engages researchers, policymakers, and business practitioners, creating a bridge between policy research and implementation. Encompassing various social sciences such as international development, public policy, economics, finance, sociology, and history, the event explores ways to enhance preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in the face of natural disasters.

Sustainable resilience takes center stage, with a specific emphasis on pre-disaster policy measures, including disaster insurance and bonds. Discussions cover the role of insurance mechanisms and budgeting strategies in strengthening sustainable resilience.

Key topics addressed include disaster and climate insurance practices, determining appropriate disaster insurance premiums, challenges in disaster insurance accessibility, the use of disaster bonds as a new financial tool, and achieving sustainable resilience through financing. The seminar features speakers from diverse backgrounds, including Bappenas, IFG Progress, World Bank, IPB, among others.
